I love Easter because it brings me so many amazing memories as a kid, and one of them are looking for eggs! And while many associate Easter with pastel candies and bunny-themed baskets, like I used to, once I found out that its roots trace back to ancient Pagan traditions honoring the Earth’s return to life, that's when I knew that this was my favorite celebration ever, specially since one of the most beautiful symbols is the egg — a vessel of new beginnings.

What is Ostara? 🌸

Celebrated around March 20-23 in the Northern Hemisphere, marks the point of perfect equilibrium: when day and night are equal in length. Named after the Germanic goddess Eostre, this seasonal festival honors fertility, rebirth, and the growing light.

The modern Easter holiday borrows heavily from these customs — from the egg (symbol of life emerging from dormancy) to the rabbit (an emblem of abundant fertility).

The Egg as a Symbol of Renewal — Easter

Across cultures, eggs have long represented potential, hope, and transformation. During Ostara, decorating or gifting eggs was a way to bless the season and share wishes for a fruitful year ahead.

In today’s world, where everything moves fast, returning to such traditions invites a slower, more intentional way of living — one where celebration comes from creation, not consumption.

Homemade Vegan Easter Eggs

Since eggs are not exactly cheap right now, why not make something amazing, that's vegan, simple, delicious and budget-friendly? Here’s a minimalist recipe that honors the spirit of Ostara while nourishing your body and soul.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup vegan dark chocolate (chips or bar, chopped)

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • Silicone egg mold or cupcake liners

Fillings (choose your favorites):

  • Pitted dates + raw cacao powder (blended into a caramel)

  • Cashew butter with a pinch of cinnamon

  • Chopped nuts + dried cherries

  • Tahini + maple syrup

  • Crushed freeze-dried berries

Instructions:

  1. Melt the chocolate with coconut oil over a bain-marie or in the microwave (short bursts, stirring every 30 seconds).

  2. Pour a thin layer of chocolate into your molds, spreading to coat the sides.

  3. Freeze for 5 minutes to harden.

  4. Add your filling of choice in the center.

  5. Cover with more chocolate until sealed.

  6. Freeze or refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until set.

  7. Gently remove from the molds and enjoy your handmade magic.

Turn Making Your Easter Eggs Into a Ritual

Creating these eggs can be a meditative practice — a way to ground yourself in the season’s energy. As you melt, fill, and shape, breathe deeply. Let gratitude pour into your creations and set your intentions. Light a candle. Play soft music. Connect.

You’re not just making sweets — you’re honoring the Earth’s awakening and your own. Allow your inner blooming.
